The air is crisp, not a single cloud above, the sky bright & blue, our faces soaking up the warmth of the sun, my team and I walk down a country dirt road.

Today team Funderbolts spent sweet time in communion by going for a walk outside on the first sunny day we’ve seen in a while. When walking down this dirt road we started to come close to a property with two large dogs roaming in the front yard. The dogs didn’t seem to be thrilled that we wanted to pass their home along the road, so as we continued to go along our way they started to bark and come after us. Naturally, we decided to turn around and go back the way we came.

Instead of the going down the path we originally planned, we followed a different path that led us to a giant, green, rolling field. We soon found ourselves in the middle of this vast landscape standing in a circle of family and community. We laughed and talked and welcomed the spirit into this place with us. We talked of God’s love and how it’s the basis of EVERYTHING.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Cor. 13:13

Eventually other squadmates joined our little church service, and we began to play music and worship the Lord. In this moment, all I could do was stand in awe of God’s goodness and love. In this moment, the sun was shining on my face, my teammate was laughing as she leapt down the hill, those around me were singing praises to our King, and the breeze was flowing through my freshly cut hair. In this moment, all I could think was THIS IS BEAUTIFUL and I never want to forget it.

Discussing the encounter with the dogs on the country road with one of our squad leaders afterwards, he pointed out a very wise application to be taken out of it. And that analogy was this-
Sometimes when we walk down a path that we think is good and the right way to go, God will place obstacles in our way that will cause us to turn around and go down a different path. Even though those obstacles might seem bad or scary at the time, God could be using them to lead you down the path that He actually wants you on. And if those dogs hadn’t sent us backwards down a different path today, we never would’ve found that field and all the beauty God had in store for us there.

Love you bunches,
